Grow Me Well!

Grow Me Well

What is healthy kai?
In Room 8 we are learning to answer questions.

Room 8 have healthy kai everyday.

We know that making healthier choices
is better for our brains and our bodies.

What’s in your lunch box?
LJ said, "I have real fruit in my lunch box".

What do you like eating?

Budgie said," I like eating apples, it's good for my teeth".

Toavalu said, " Bananas are healthy".

Taunuuga said, " I have sandwiches in my lunchbox".

Hayzell said, " I have an egg sandwich".
Samuel said, " Celery is healthy for me".

How can we stay healthy?
Here’s Room 8’s brainstorm.

* eating fruit
*eating vegetables
* excercising
* getting enough rest and sleep
* washing and drying hands properly
visiting the dentist-looking after our teeth
*drinking water only

Colin said, "Water is the best.
Eat healthy so we won't get diabetes".

We are an only water drinking school!
We would like to say meitaki maata, malo aupito, fa'afetai lava and thank you to our whanau for making our healthy lunches to bring to school everyday.

Water is best for our brains and bodies
Oh yea, yea, yea, yea
NO FIZZ!!!!!!!

Music Making on Pink Shirt Day

May 19th was Pink and Red shirt day to raise awareness for bullying.
On Pink and Red shirt day our class were making some wonderful instruments.
We used colourful straws to create our own
Pan flutes!

We then used our flutes to join in with some of our favourite songs.

“My flute makes awesome sounds!” – Diamond

“I like the colours of my flute and the noise”- Honi

We love the sound of
our awesome flutes!

Fiafia 2015

FIAFIA 2015

Dance is the hidden language of the soul and Yendarra School has recently experienced the love that can be shared through cultural song and dance.

This year we celebrated everything ‘grand’ at Yendarra by hosting our Fiafia event at the Otara Leisure Centre with an amazing number of special guests, families and musicians.

Our children were the super stars and shining stars that ignited a flame that would light up the hearts of many for a long time and this is their story….

On Wednesday 9th December 2015 from 12noon the senior students and teachers prepared Fiafia day at the Otara Rec Centre to celebrate the year and fill people’s hearts with happiness. I felt very proud of everyone who attended the Fiafia day. By: Nora

I really enjoyed performing at Fiafia because I liked representing my dad’s culture – Cook Island. I had fun making people smile and I enjoyed the opportunity to talk in front of a massive crowd. I hope the next generation of us make Fiafia even better than this year so all our parents and special guest feel happy to watch Yendarra perform again!. By: Shalah-Maye

We THANK OUR FAMILIES AND SCHOOL FAMILY

for joining us on our best day ever!

Best Attendance 2015

EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE

Congratulations to 63 members of our whanau for achieving excellent attendance. You are truly amazing and deserve to be congratulated for coming to school every day to make the most of your learning opportunities and privileges.

At Yendarra school we love to see our children’s bright and cheerful faces and they truly make our school a ‘home away from home’ and paradise even when it is cloudy.

Our school class goal is to have 90% of our children attending school every day and we aim for only having up to 4 days away in the year.  We look forward to seeing more children achieve excellent attendance in 2016.

To celebrate our winners we travelled to Mangere Leisure Centre to enjoy sporting activities in the recreation centre, swimming activities in the outdoor pool and returned to receive a cold and delicious treat from Mrs Dunlop and Mrs Takatainga ‘lickety lick’.

Thank you staff at Mangere Leisure Centre, especially Munokoa Leotoga for organising a team of stars that took great care of us on the day.

Well done Mrs Childs and Room 13 for having the most children achieve excellent attendance for 2015. You are legend and the goal is for all classes to aim for the most children achieving excellent attendance in 2016
