Yendarra Tamariki Meet The Police!

The local police have heard what AMAZING tamariki we have at Yendarra School so they came by for a visit. It was great to see the police officers at school during lunch time because they got to talk to lots of children and answer their questions.

Some of the questions that we asked the police officers were:
Do you always have to wear a uniform?
Why is your uniform blue?
How did you become a police officer?
What is inside your police car?
What equipment do you have on your belt?
What do you use the equipment for?
Can we please see your handcuffs?

We loved listening to all of their answers! It made us think… maybe we could be police officers when we grow up!

Some of the police officers even joined in the senior school hockey game. Other children were spectators and cheered them on.

It is always lots of fun to see the police officers at Yendarra School. Thank you for everything that you do for us because you help to keep us safe. We hope to see you again soon!

Check out our talented and amazing gospel singers performing at the Auckland Town Hall during the Rolling Stones Tribute concert.
We are so proud of you!

To Celebrate Matariki - Room 4 have been reading Maori Myths and Legends.  Please share some of our akonga writing.

Tane is the god of the sky.  Tane has a moko.  Tane made a basket out of flax.  Tane’s stars are bright and beautiful.  Tane is a superhero because he can save the sky.  Tane created some stars because the sky was dark.  I love Tane because he can fly with the stars.
Tominika.  Age 6.

Tane has superpowers and he is a maori superhero.  Tane has muscles and is god of the sky.  He made the stars with his sharp knife and good metal.
Cornelius.  Age 6

Tane has muscles and is a maori god of the sky.  Tane is strong and uses a knife to make the stars for the people.  Tane is a superhero because he can fly in the sky.  Tane’s people were happy when he made them the stars.  Tane made a flax basket to carry the stars up into the sky.
Hosea.  Age 6

Tane made stars with his special knife.  Tane is god of the sky and he made a flax basket to take the stars into the sky.  Tane used his superpowers to fly all the way to the sky.  I would like it if I could do that!
